Before you start, check you fit

  • Unapproved travel, extra nonmedical days, personal taxi use, and hotel extras are not covered.
  • A child under 18 traveling out of state must travel with a legal parent or guardian.
  • Outside-community and out-of-state travel requires a covered service that is unavailable closer to home and advance provider authorization.

    What to bring to the meeting

    • Your child’s diagnosis, the hospital’s name, and what you need help with.

    What happens next

    • Determine whether the trip is EPSDT local travel or provider-authorized Medicaid travel.
    • Ask the provider to request authorization, or call Early Screening travel for the EPSDT branch.

After your care team sends it

They don’t publish how long a decision takes. If you have not heard back in two weeks, write and ask whether it arrived.
