Have ready
- Proof of identity for the applicant.
- Proof of New Jersey residence.
- Proof of earned and unearned household income.
- Household, resource, Social Security number, immigration-status when applicable, and student-status information requested for eligibility.
- Optional proofs of eligible shelter, utility, dependent-care, child-support, or medical expenses used in the benefit calculation. Only if they ask.

Complete the interview and verification. Most decisions are due within 30 days; households meeting expedited criteria may receive benefits within seven days. If you have not heard back by then, write and ask.
