Keeping a sibling's care place can steady family life during treatment. Alaska pays part of the cost while a parent works, studies, trains or follows an agreed activity plan. If the only parent at home has stopped work to be at the hospital, ask the office whether the help continues before you rely on it.
Eligibility rules
- Approved activities include work, school, training or activities assigned on a family self-sufficiency plan.
- The regulation incorporates an income and sliding-fee schedule rather than a single universal income limit. The current household-size dollar table and its effective date must be confirmed with the local Child Care Assistance office; a proposed schedule is not an adopted rule.
- Hospital attendance alone is not a listed starting activity, but existing assistance can continue through certain interruptions in work, school or training. The rules provide three months after a non-temporary cessation to look for work or another eligible activity, and may cover a longer absence within the certification period when return to an eligible activity is verified. Separate incapacity rules concern the parent and require professional verification. A social worker can help the office review the actual circumstances rather than assume that stopping work ends assistance.

What the help includes
- The Child Care Assistance Program is also called Parents Achieving Self-Sufficiency (PASS). Assistance pays toward care rather than guaranteeing a particular place.
- The award should show your contribution, approved benefit and care covered. The Child Care Assistance office confirms the current sliding-fee schedule and any adjustment for your circumstances. The child-care setting may charge amounts outside the approved benefit, so its full price matters too.

- Discuss a sibling’s child care and your current activity schedule with the social worker. If you decide to pursue help, the Child Care Program Office can review income and any existing award.
- If you decide to proceed, have proof of work or study, the child care setting’s details and the treatment schedule ready. Ask for an answer in writing if hospital time is your activity.

- The rules give the office 10 days to identify missing information and generally give the family 30 days to complete it, unless a later date is allowed.
