Your child’s Arizona health plan can arrange free rides when there is no other way to treatment.

What it is

Your child’s Arizona health plan can arrange free rides when there is no other way to treatment.

Repeated treatment visits can make transport difficult to manage. This benefit is for members who cannot provide, arrange or pay for a ride and have no free ride available. The plan checks the trip and books it.

Eligibility rules
  • Your child needs Arizona health coverage. The member must be unable to provide, secure or pay for transport, with no free transport available.
What you get
  • Free rides to and from covered medical appointments.
What the help includes
  • The health plan arranges the ride. ALTCS transport contacts can differ from ordinary plan contacts.
  • For a planned distant treatment trip, the plan can approve transport and any medically necessary escort, meals or lodging before arrangements are made. An arranged ride does not automatically reimburse family driving or self-booked travel. Fee-for-service reimbursement has registration and prior-approval rules. The plan can confirm approved dates, who travels, booking arrangements, receipts and dollar limits for the actual trip.

  1. Ask member services on your child’s coverage card about transport for the treatment schedule.
  2. Have the card, appointment dates, pickup address and clinic addresses ready.
  3. Ask about the booking notice and keep the confirmation numbers.

After you ask
  • Banner–University Family Care ACC asks for 72 hours’ notice for routine rides. Other plans use their own notice rules; ask the number on your child’s card.
  • Every plan asks for about three business days' notice for a routine ride; the number on your child's card confirms it. Urgent trips and going home from hospital are arranged the same day.
Good to know

Rides are for families with no other way to get there. Ask early about long trips: meals, lodging and a traveling parent need approval before you book anything.

  • Use the member-services number on your child's card; it routes to the right transport line.
  • The Clinical Resolution Unit can help with an unresolved plan problem at 602-364-4558.
  • AHCCCS transport policy 310-BB is effective August 15, 2025. Planned out-of-state care and travel may need separate approvals; emergency and applicable border-area rules can differ. The plan can confirm the exact trip before the family pays for travel.
