Arizona Medicaid can cover you as well as your child when you meet the adult rules.

What it is

Arizona Medicaid can cover you as well as your child when you meet the adult rules.

Reduced hours can mean losing your own work insurance as well as losing pay. A lower current income can open adult Medicaid. Health-e-Arizona Plus can review the adults and children together.

Eligibility rules
  • This adult category covers Arizona residents aged 19–64. The published base income standard is 133% of poverty.
  • From February 1, 2026, published monthly limits are $3,028 for three people and $3,658 for four. AHCCCS decides the household and applicable income deductions.
  • A grandparent or other relative caregiver can be screened for adult coverage using that adult’s category, household and income. The relationship to the child alone does not establish approval or exclusion.

  • Health coverage for your own doctor visits, hospital care and prescriptions.
  • Mental health care.
What the help includes
  • Adult AHCCCS covers medical and mental health care. The eligibility worker can explain the costs for your category.
If you decide to apply
  1. Ask the financial counselor to include adults who need coverage on the Health-e-Arizona Plus application.
  2. Have current pay records and Social Security numbers for the adults applying ready.

After you ask
  • The ordinary decision standard is 45 calendar days. An approval notice gives the adults’ coverage dates and plan choices.
  • If income prevents approval, the federal Marketplace is a separate coverage route with its own enrollment rules.
Good to know

Your child being approved does not cover you. Each adult is checked on the lower adult line, so the child can be in while a parent is out.

Other details
  • From January 2027, adults on AHCCCS renew every six months and report 80 hours a month of work or similar activity. Caring for a child 13 or younger or for a disabled person is an exception, but you still have to renew. None of this applies to children. (one bullet)

Dates that change this

2027-01-01: From January 1, 2027 some adults face six-month renewals and work or activity rules. CMS issued an interim final rule in June 2026. Caregiving for a dependent aged 13 or younger or a person with a disability may qualify for a work-rule exception, but does not automatically remove renewal duties. Children are not subject to these work rules. (not yet confirmed against the final rule)
