What it is

WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Arkansas Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules
- Under 5, or pregnant or recently pregnant; each person is checked separately.
- For July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the WIC income guideline for three people is $4,212 monthly or $50,542 annually, based on 185% of poverty. Current qualifying Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can establish the applicant’s income eligibility separately.
- WIC does not require U.S. citizenship or a particular immigration status. The Arkansas clinic checks identity and Arkansas residence, but there is no minimum time you must have lived in the state. Your social worker can help ask the clinic which records it accepts for you and your child, including alternatives when the usual documents are unavailable.

What it is not
- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
Good to know
An income screen above the line does not settle every WIC case. Current qualifying Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can supply a separate income route; the clinic still checks each person’s category and nutrition needs.

- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility.
