WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Health First Colorado, Food Assistance or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules
- WIC serves children under 5, pregnant people, eligible nonbreastfeeding parents for six months after pregnancy ends, and breastfeeding parents through the baby’s first birthday. Each person is assessed separately.
- The federal income route is 185% of the poverty level, or qualifying Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation. Colorado’s monthly table for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 is $3,337 for two people, $4,212 for three, $5,088 for four, $5,964 for five and $6,839 for six.
- Colorado WIC does not require U.S. citizenship and does not ask about or track immigration status. A WIC clinic still checks the participant category, residency, nutritional needs and income rules. The social worker can help locate the local clinic without treating WIC as subject to another program’s immigration test.

What it is not
- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility. When a medical condition prevents an in-person visit, the clinic can check an attendance exception and explain the records still needed.
Good to know
WIC can review your younger child using your income now; qualifying benefit participation can simplify the income check, but you do not need to wait for another program’s decision.
