What it is

Help paying for eligible child care through Connecticut’s Care 4 Kids program.

Child care can become hard when a parent spends time at the hospital. Care 4 Kids pays part of a sibling's care while a parent works or trains. If you already have it, it keeps going during a temporary change or family leave; a new application needs a parent in work or training and an open place.

Eligibility rules
  • New applicants must be below 60% of state median income under the program’s household calculation. The child needing care can be the child in treatment or a sibling.
  • Income must be under 60% of the state median: about $6,430 a month for three people, $7,655 for four. The table changes each October.
  • A new application needs a parent who is working, studying or training. If you already have Care 4 Kids, a temporary family or sick leave is treated differently from stopping work; ask the social worker to help explain which it is.
What you get
  • A payment toward approved child care.
  • Continued eligibility during some temporary work absences for families already enrolled.
What the help covers
  • Your share is a percentage of income, from nothing at the lowest incomes up to 7% at the top of the range.
  • A child-care service may charge the difference between its price and the program’s payment ceiling. That ceiling depends on age, region, setting and approved hours.
  • On September 16, 2026, the enrollment-list estimate was ten months for many families. Priority groups can be considered sooner. Care 4 Kids confirms the current wait; the estimate is not a promised opening date.

  • Approved licensed care and certain approved relatives can participate. The January 1, 2026 full-time rate covers 35–50 hours weekly; the approved-relative ceiling is $268 weekly. The care setting confirms any remaining family charge.
