Medicaid can arrange free rides to covered care when your child has no other transportation.

What it is

Medicaid can arrange free rides to covered care when your child has no other transportation.

Treatment can mean repeated trips to the same clinic. Medicaid’s ride benefit can cover the child and a needed escort when no other transportation is available. Your plan’s ride company handles the bookings.

Eligibility rules
  • The trip must be medically necessary, for a covered service, and needed because no other transportation is available.

  • Free rides to and from Medicaid-covered appointments.
  • An escort or personal care attendant when required.
What the help covers
  • For a day trip over 100 miles the CMS plan can approve up to $20 a meal, three meals a day, when asked in advance.
  • From October 1, 2026, Molina runs the CMS plan and lists MTM at 844-399-9469. The care coordinator confirms booking notice, meals or lodging, and how an existing travel approval carries over. Protection for existing approved care does not establish the allowance for a new trip.

  1. Ask the care coordinator about recurring rides for your child’s treatment calendar.
  2. Use the ride number on your child’s plan card and explain any escort or mobility needs.
  3. Ask how to confirm trips and who handles a missed pickup.

What happens next
  • Book a routine ride at least one working day before the appointment; a call on Monday covers a Wednesday visit.
  • Through September 30, 2026, Sunshine CMS lists 844-399-9469 and ordinary Sunshine Medicaid lists 844-352-0134. For other plans or fee-for-service Medicaid, the coordinator confirms the current broker number. Molina CMS member services is 800-262-0750 from October 1.
Good to know

The CMS plan changes companies on October 1, 2026. The new card matters for ride arrangements too.

Other details
  • This is scheduled transportation. A medical emergency uses emergency services, not the routine ride line.
  • Treatment approval and travel approval are separate for planned distant or out-of-state care. The coordinator confirms an escort, lodging and meals for the actual trip. A day-trip meal extra is not a statewide overnight allowance.
  • Medicaid and the separate KidCare insurance components have different benefits. A child on a KidCare plan should ask that plan's member line about rides; the Children's Medical Services plan includes them.

Watch out

  • Sunshine CMS and ordinary Sunshine Medicaid use one business day for routine bookings. Other plans and fee-for-service rules need the coordinator’s confirmation. Emergency transport is separate.
  • The number depends on the plan, and the Children's Medical Services plan's ride company may change on October 1, 2026. Use the card.
  • Meals on long trips need the plan's approval first.
