Florida program
Money for groceries (SNAP)
SNAP puts monthly grocery money on an EBT card when your household meets the food-assistance rules.
What it is
SNAP puts monthly grocery money on an EBT card when your household meets the food-assistance rules.
Florida screens most households against a gross-income line before calculating the grocery benefit. Rent, utilities and other allowed deductions affect the amount. A drop in current pay can change the calculation even if last year’s earnings were higher.
Eligibility rules
- For October 2025 through September 2026, most households use a 200% poverty gross-income screen. Monthly screens for two through six people are $3,526, $4,442, $5,360, $6,276 and $7,192.
- Most households under broad-based categorical eligibility have no asset limit. Different rules can apply outside that route.
What you get
- Monthly grocery money based on the household’s income and allowed deductions.
- Food purchases using an EBT card.
- Faster processing for households meeting an urgent-need test.
What the help covers
- An elderly or qualifying disabled member can permit a deduction for allowable unreimbursed medical expenses above $35 monthly. A cancer diagnosis alone does not establish every SNAP disability rule.
If you decide to apply
- Ask the hospital social worker for help with MyACCESS and the required interview.
- Have ready income proof, housing and utility costs, and other expenses DCF asks about.
- Ask the caseworker whether the seven-day urgent-need test fits.

What happens next
- Expedited benefits are due within seven days when gross monthly income is under $150 and liquid assets are at most $100, or income plus liquid assets are below housing and utility costs. A qualifying destitute migrant or seasonal farmworker household can also qualify.
- If you already get SNAP and pay drops by $50 or more, report it with proof within 10 days and the higher amount starts the next month.
- Florida generally uses simplified reporting. Specified changes are due by the tenth day of the following month; the case notice explains which changes. Medicaid or TCA can have separate reporting duties.
Good to know
SNAP counts everyone who shares meals with you, which is not the same household Medicaid counts, so this is a separate check.

“Would food help fit our current income, and which bills could affect the amount? If it is worth applying, could you help with MyACCESS and check whether faster processing applies?”
Why I’m asking: I want to make room in the budget for groceries while treatment changes our income and expenses.

Who does what
The three parts, side by side. The agency decides; nobody on this page does.
You
File on MyACCESS, do the interview, report income and expenses, and report any pay drop with proof.
Your social worker
The social worker helps protect the filing date and asks the doctor for a letter if a parent stopped work.
The care team
Writes the letter that the child needs the parent's daily care, if a work rule comes up.
- Who decides
- Florida's benefits office (DCF)
- Ask your social worker
- “Can you help us file for food assistance on MyACCESS this week and ask for the expedited check? Our income this month is what counts.”

Dates that change this
2025-10-01: The 2026 federal-year tables run October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026; the next change is October 1, 2026.

What it is worth
Up to $994 a month for four (federal maximum for the 2026 budget year). Florida's income limit is $5,360 a month for four (200% of the poverty line, October 2025 to September 2026). No savings limit for most households.
- $5,360/month — Gross income screen, 4 people (200% of poverty, FY2026 table)
- $994/month — Maximum benefit, 4 people (federal FY2026)
- $150/month (with liquid assets of $100 or less; or income plus liquid assets under rent or mortgage and utilities) — Expedited service: gross income under
Covers: EBT food benefit · Expedited (7-day) processing when money is nearly gone
What it costs the family: None.
The eligibility facts, as published
- Gross income
- 200% of the federal poverty level for most households (broad-based categorical eligibility); FY2026 table effective 2025-10-01: $3,526 / $4,442 / $5,360 / $6,276 / $7,192 for two to six
- Resources
- no asset limit for households under broad-based categorical eligibility (USDA); most households keep vehicles, bank accounts and property
- Medical deduction
- for an elderly or disabled member, allowable unreimbursed medical expenses above $35 a month (not a flat standard deduction; a Florida standard medical deduction was not found)
- Expedited
- gross income under $150 with liquid assets at most $100; or income plus liquid assets under rent or mortgage plus utilities; or a destitute migrant or seasonal farmworker household; benefits within 7 days
- Change reporting
- a decrease of $50 or more in monthly gross income is a substantial change; with verification within 10 days the increase is made no later than the following month
- Next table change
- 2026-10-01
Decisions this site cannot make: DCF SNAP eligibility
Expect friction on: Interview · Expedited only on request
The trap: If pay drops mid-month, report it on MyACCESS with proof at once. A drop of $50 or more a month is a 'substantial change', and the benefits office (DCF) must raise the benefit no later than the following month.
