Time away for treatment can unsettle another child's care. If you already get CAPS, ask how leave affects the case before the place ends. A new application needs a parent working or studying and income under the line.
Eligibility rules
- CAPS checks income, activity and funding. Temporary family-care or illness absence can be relevant to an existing arrangement.
- A new CAPS case requires Georgia residence and checks the child’s age and status, income, and approved work, education or training. Children are generally age 12 or younger, with specified exceptions through age 17. The initial income screen is 50% of state median income. CAPS separately reviews keeping an existing case during illness or family-care leave. The office confirms the allowed leave, documents and activity rules.

What the help includes
- Assistance concerns approved child care. It is not a general payment for caring for the child in cancer treatment.

- A decision letter comes within 30 days. A place still depends on funding and a wait list, and the family fee depends on income.
