Food and nutrition help for younger children (Georgia WIC)

WIC provides food and nutrition support during pregnancy, after birth and for children under 5.

What it is

WIC provides food and nutrition support during pregnancy, after birth and for children under 5.

WIC can help a younger child or eligible parent even when the child in cancer treatment is too old. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF passes the income test. The clinic checks the remaining participation rules.

Eligibility rules
  • WIC serves pregnant participants, breastfeeding participants for up to a year after birth, non-breastfeeding postpartum participants for up to six months, infants and children under 5. The clinic also checks income and nutritional risk.
  • From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the WIC line is $4,212 monthly or $50,542 yearly for three people. For four, it is $5,088 or $61,050. These are published 185%-of-poverty guidelines.
  • Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation establishes income eligibility. The nutrition clinic checks the other requirements.

  • Approved foods follow the participant’s WIC package. Formula and nutrition needs are discussed with the clinic.

Good to know

WIC is a specific food package rather than cash. Children age out at their fifth birthday.

Other details
  • The income table changes July 1. A child’s Medicaid enrollment does not itself enroll a sibling in WIC.
  • Georgia WIC checks identity and residence. A photo ID is not the only option: birth certificates, immunization records and other accepted documents can help. There is no minimum Georgia residence period or fixed-address requirement. The clinic can explain a client statement when ordinary proof is unavailable, and any questions about the eligibility rules.
