What it is

WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules
- WIC serves pregnant participants, breastfeeding participants for up to a year after birth, non-breastfeeding postpartum participants for up to six months, infants and children under 5. The clinic also checks income and nutritional risk.
- From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the published WIC income line is $4,212 monthly or $50,542 annually for three people. For four people it is $5,088 monthly or $61,050 annually. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can establish the income requirement. Each participant still needs the clinic assessment.
- Georgia WIC checks identity for participating children and adults, and residence in Georgia. Accepted examples include a birth certificate or immunization record and a recent bill or other address record. A photo ID is not the only possible proof. There is no minimum Georgia residence period or fixed-address requirement. The clinic can explain alternatives, including a client statement when ordinary residence documents are unavailable, and confirm how its citizenship and immigration rules apply.

- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
Good to know
WIC can check current income without waiting for another program’s decision. Each person must still meet its age or pregnancy rules.
Other details
- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility.
