A relapse, transplant or trial can make care elsewhere worth discussing early. That does not mean your child must leave Boise. If another center is proposed, treatment, billing and travel need separate checks.

If care elsewhere is proposed
  • The referring team and receiving hospital need written confirmation of coverage approval, enrolled billing clinicians and any required payment agreement. A hospital’s representative, not necessarily the treating doctor or parent, signs its enrollment agreement.
  • Ask your social worker to help identify the service, dates, approving office, hospital billing contact and family costs. A referral, trial invitation or Medicaid card alone does not establish payment arrangements.

Travel and decision timing
  • Long-distance Medicaid travel normally needs at least ten calendar days’ notice. MTM can assess an urgent trip outside the routine notice rule. Meals and lodging need approval before costs are incurred.
  • Medicaid must answer a treatment-approval request within seven days, or 72 hours when your child cannot safely wait.
