Temporary Assistance for Families in Idaho provides monthly cash for families with very low income.

Cash assistance helps with needs health insurance does not cover. Idaho's income line is very low, on a standard dating to 2002, and savings have to be under $5,000. The grant comes with a responsibility plan, which can be renegotiated when a child is in hospital.

Eligibility rules
  • Income after the office's deductions must be under $309 a month for two people, $389 for three and $469 for four. The grant itself is at most $309 whatever the family size.
  • Health and Welfare confirms the current resource limit and which savings are excluded. A broad household savings answer does not complete that calculation.

Idaho's July 2026 rule allows a responsibility plan to be modified when circumstances change. A child's cancer does not automatically create a work exemption. The office also explains any one-time diversion payment, repayment conditions and effect on later benefits before you choose it.
Good to know

The $309 maximum is for the family, not each child. Adults have a 24-month lifetime limit.
