Keeping a sibling's routine matters during treatment. Indiana pays while a parent works or studies and income is under the line. Whether time at the hospital counts as an activity is not settled, so ask the office before you rely on it.

Eligibility rules
  • From April 5, 2026, the entry ceiling is 135% of poverty: $3,713 monthly for four people or $3,074 for three.
  • An approved activity is required as well as the income test.
  • Approved activities include work, qualifying education or training, and certain job-search situations. The child care office confirms whether the actual activity qualifies; caring for a hospitalized sibling is not an established stand-alone route for a new voucher.
  • Children generally must be under 13 at application or renewal. Special-needs and court-supervised rules can cover children under 18, with specified continuation through the Sunday after the 19th birthday. The office checks age, activity and current voucher status.

  • Payment toward an approved child care place; the sliding scale sets any family copayment.
  • A possible pause in counted absences for an already enrolled medically fragile child.
What the help includes
  • An existing recipient's approved temporary medical leave may preserve eligibility through the certification period. Permanent loss of an approved activity can allow a 16-week transition starting the following Sunday, subject to conditions; changes must be reported within ten calendar days.
  • If the child in treatment is already enrolled, a clinic letter can pause the absence count for a planned gap of two weeks or more; the day-care is not paid during the pause and must agree to hold the place.
  • Under the April 5, 2026 schedule for years 1–3 of assistance, income at or below 100% of poverty has no copay. The 101–109%, 110–118% and 119–135% bands have 5%, 6% and 7% copays. Later-year schedules differ; the office confirms the family's calculation.

Good to know

A pause for treatment absences keeps the child's funding, not a particular provider's place. It does not open help for a sibling who was not already enrolled.
