WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Medicaid, Food Assistance or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules

- Indiana's published 2026 table gives a monthly guideline of $4,212 for three people and $5,088 for four. The income route is at or under 185% of poverty, or current Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation. WIC confirms which table applies on your appointment date.
- Indiana WIC checks residence, identity, income or qualifying benefits, and nutrition risk. Its appointment list asks for the child's and caregiver's identification, address evidence and income records; Medicaid or SNAP/TANF evidence can establish the income route. Indiana WIC at 800-522-0874 or inwic@health.in.gov confirms the current citizenship or immigration policy. Address evidence is not proof of citizenship.

What it is not
- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
- The appointment list includes bringing the child and immunization information for a child under two. Income evidence can include the most recent 30 days of pay records. WIC cannot impose a minimum length of residence.
Good to know
WIC can review your younger child using your income now; qualifying benefit participation can simplify the income check, but you do not need to wait for another program’s decision.
Other details
- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility.
