A yearly payment toward heating costs (Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LIEAP).

What it is

A yearly payment toward heating costs (Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LIEAP).

LIEAP can reduce a heating bill during its winter application window. The payment is annual, not ongoing utility coverage. Being under an income line does not mean an application window is open.

Eligibility rules
  • The 2026 season used 150% of poverty. Monthly limits were $1,956 for one, $2,644 for two, $3,331 for three and $4,019 for four.
  • The remaining 2026 monthly limits were $4,706 for five, $5,394 for six, $6,081 for seven and $6,769 for eight.
What you get
  • One payment toward the heating bill for an eligible household.
What the help includes
  • This is heating assistance rather than a promise to prevent disconnection. Utility payment arrangements are a separate route.

  1. Ask a Department for Children and Families service center about the LIEAP application window.
  2. Have a recent heating bill and proof of income ready if you decide to apply during the season.
