What it is

Food and nutrition support for eligible pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum people and children under 5 (WIC).

WIC helps eligible pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum people and children under five with food and nutrition support. Medicaid, Food Assistance or TANF participation can establish the income part of eligibility; the local clinic still checks the other requirements. This questionnaire has not asked about every adult WIC category.

Eligibility rules
  • Kansas WIC uses 185% of poverty. Monthly limits effective June 1, 2026 until superseded are $2,461 for one, $3,337 for two, $4,212 for three, $5,088 for four, $5,964 for five, $6,839 for six, $7,715 for seven and $8,591 for eight. Each additional person adds $876.
  • The local clinic reviews the participant’s nutrition needs as well as income and residence.
  • Kansas WIC does not require U.S. citizenship or lawful immigration status. The clinic checks identity, Kansas residence, income eligibility and nutrition risk.
  • Current KanCare, Food Assistance or TANF participation establishes income eligibility; the clinic still checks the other requirements.

  • Income eligibility through participation in Medicaid, SNAP or TANF.
What the help includes
  • Food packages depend on the eligible child or pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum participant rather than the whole family’s grocery budget.

  2. Have proof of income and the participating child’s details ready for the clinic’s nutrition check.

After you ask
  • The local WIC clinic carries out the nutrition check and issues the benefit.
  • KDHE accepts documents such as a child’s birth certificate or immunization record, accepted adult identification, and a lease, utility bill or other address record. Social Security cards are not accepted as identification. The clinic can explain alternatives when ordinary documents are unavailable.
Good to know

WIC follows the eligible person, who need not be the child in treatment: a pregnant parent or a brother or sister under 5 can qualify.
