Kentucky can help with child-care costs when a family meets the income and approved-activity rules.
Child-care help can keep a sibling's routine going. Kentucky pays while a parent works, studies or trains and income is under the line. A parent who has stopped work to be at the hospital cannot start it new; a family already getting it can keep it for up to three months after work stops.
Eligibility rules
- The benefits office confirms the current income table, family copayment and any exemption for your household.
- CCAP checks income and a qualifying activity for each parent, including approved work, education, training, job search or a permitted exception. The worker confirms whether any route covers hospital caregiving in your case. Existing awards have separate temporary-change protections; a work change is not automatically an immediate loss.
- You must live in Kentucky.
What you get
- Payment toward eligible child care, sent directly to the child-care service.
Amounts and limits
- Ordinary eligibility is for a child under 13, with defined exceptions for older children under 19.
- For an existing award, the December 17, 2025 MS 1020 temporary-change rule can protect care for up to three months or until recertification, whichever is sooner, subject to the case’s conditions.

Good to know
Being at the hospital does not count as work or training. If that is your situation, ask the hospital social worker about practical sibling care instead.
Other details
- The benefits office can explain the family’s copayment and any exemption.
- The child’s care need and the adult’s qualifying activity are separate questions. A new request and a temporary interruption under an existing award can have different results.

Watch out
- The approved activities are work and training. Sitting at the hospital was not established as one on its own.
- This line uses state median income, not the poverty guideline, so it looks high beside the food and cash lines.

The trap: Being at the hospital with a sick child was not established as an approved activity on its own. The manual's approved activities are work and training. If a family already has the subsidy and a parent stops work, it can carry on for up to three calendar months or to the end of the certification, whichever comes first.
