What it is

Louisiana’s Child Care Assistance Program pays part of eligible families’ child care costs.

Child care help can cut the cost of caring for other children during treatment. Louisiana pays while a parent works, studies or trains twenty hours a week and income is under the 2026 scale. There is no emergency route, and a decision can take up to 30 days.

Eligibility rules
  • CCAP generally serves children under 13, or under 18 with a qualifying disability. Work, school or training generally uses a 20-hour weekly benchmark, but full-time student status and specified other categories have alternative rules. The agency checks each relevant adult and the child receiving care.
  • The published 2026 monthly limits are $4,727 for two people, $5,839 for three, $6,951 for four, $8,064 for five and $9,176 for six. The agency confirms which scale applies on the application or review date.
  • The agency must check whether your caregiving circumstances fit an activity rule or exception. Hospital caregiving does not automatically establish work or school eligibility. If you already have a child-care place, the agency separately checks whether it can continue during leave. The social worker can help obtain a written answer for each relevant adult and the child receiving care.

What the help covers
  • You pay a share that rises with income; the lowest band pays nothing. The provider can charge more than the state rate, and there may be a waiting list.
