Louisiana offers a temporary parking hang tag when a medical condition severely limits mobility.

A parking tag can shorten the walk between the car and care. An authorized medical examiner must describe the qualifying mobility limitation. Treatment phase or diagnosis alone does not establish eligibility.

Eligibility rules
  • The statutory mobility criteria include inability to walk 200 feet without rest, needing assistance to walk, portable oxygen, specified heart or lung limits, or a severe mobility limitation. An authorized medical examiner checks the applicable criterion; diagnosis or treatment phase alone does not decide eligibility.
  • A physician, a Louisiana chiropractor or physical therapist, or a nurse practitioner can sign the form.

Good to know

The form needs the mobility limitation described clearly. A cancer diagnosis by itself is not enough.
