WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Louisiana Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules
- WIC includes children under 5 and eligible pregnant or postpartum participants. Nonbreastfeeding postpartum eligibility generally extends through the sixth month after pregnancy ends; breastfeeding eligibility generally continues through the baby’s first birthday while breastfeeding. The clinic checks nutrition risk and the other requirements.
- Louisiana’s guideline effective July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 lists monthly limits of $2,461/$3,337/$4,212/$5,088/$5,964/$6,839/$7,715/$8,591 for household sizes 1–8, and $9,466/$10,342/$11,218/$12,093/$12,969/$13,845/$14,720/$15,596 for sizes 9–16. Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, LaCHIP or LaMOMS participation can establish the income part. The clinic still checks category, nutrition risk and other requirements.
- Louisiana WIC accepts several forms of identity, physical-address and income or qualifying-benefit proof. A utility or rent bill can show residence, and the clinic offers alternatives when usual documents are unavailable. An immigration document is one possible identity document, not the only option. The clinic confirms its current citizenship, immigration and documentation policy without treating missing standard papers as automatic ineligibility.
