What it is

Food benefits and nutrition support for pregnancy, the months after birth, babies and children under five. WIC can run alongside SNAP.

A younger sibling or pregnancy can make WIC useful even when the child in treatment is older. A local clinic checks eligibility and nutrition needs. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can establish the income part of eligibility.

Eligibility rules
  • Maryland's table effective May 29, 2026 sets monthly limits of $2,461 for one person, $3,337 for two, $4,212 for three, $5,088 for four, $5,964 for five and $6,839 for six.
  • WIC includes pregnancy, up to six months after a pregnancy ends without breastfeeding, and breastfeeding up to one year after birth. Infants and children under five can qualify too. Maryland checks identity, residence, income and nutrition needs; citizenship or a particular immigration status is not an eligibility test.
  • If anyone in the family has Medical Assistance, SNAP or cash assistance, the income part is already met. Otherwise the clinic looks at the last 30 days’ pay or the last year, whichever fits your situation better.
