What it is

Help paying for home heat through a local agency [Home Energy Assistance Program].

Heating help uses a different income line from health coverage and food benefits. A local community action agency checks your household and heating costs. Approval can also connect you with the utility’s low-income discount.

Eligibility rules
  • The limit is 60% of estimated state median income for household size.
  • For the season starting November 2026, income up to about $7,213 a month for three people or $8,587 for four.
  • Applications open online on October 1, 2026 for the season running November to April.
