What it is
A temporary parking certificate can help when your child cannot walk far without stopping to rest.
A shorter walk can make clinic visits easier during treatment. A temporary disability parking certificate is based on walking limits, not the cancer diagnosis alone. A clinician must certify the qualifying limitation.
Who can qualify
- A temporary inability to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest can qualify.
- A licensed physician, physician assistant, advanced practice registered nurse, physical therapist or chiropractor can certify a qualifying limitation.
What you get
- A temporary certificate for up to six months costs $5.
What the help includes
- The certificate follows the child’s qualifying walking or other statutory limitation. Finishing cancer treatment does not establish that the limitation ended.
If you decide to apply
- Ask your social worker to help the clinic review whether your child’s walking limits meet the certificate rules.
- If you decide to request it, have an authorized clinician sign the statement and submit it to Driver and Vehicle Services.
