SNAP helps pay for groceries when income does not stretch far enough. Minnesota’s initial screen is 200% of the poverty guideline. Passing that screen starts the conversation, while the county’s full calculation decides the payment.

What the help includes

  • Passing the gross screen does not promise a positive benefit. The county checks the actual food household, income exclusions and deductions. Separate routes can matter for an elderly or qualifying disabled member.

  • Seven-calendar-day processing can apply when gross income is under $150 and liquid resources are at most $100. It can also apply when income plus liquid resources is less than rent or mortgage plus utilities. A qualifying destitute migrant or seasonal-farmworker household with at most $100 in liquid resources has a separate urgent test.

There is no savings test. Passing the income screen is not the amount; rent and utilities set that.
