Energy crisis help can respond quickly when a shutoff threatens medical equipment at home.

A shutoff notice changes the energy-assistance route. The community agency handles crisis payment, while the utility controls disconnection. A medical letter helps explain the risk but does not itself promise a hold.

Eligibility rules
  • The crisis route uses the energy-assistance income scale and requires a qualifying crisis in Mississippi.

What this includes
  • Other energy crises must be relieved within 48 hours of an approved application.
  • LIHEAP crisis payments and a utility’s medical-disconnection protections are different. The utility confirms its written medical-hold rule, clinician certification, payment conditions, renewal limits and exact end date. A medical letter alone does not confirm that power will stay on. A LIHEAP income result does not decide whether utility-specific protection is available.
