What it is

WIC provides food packages, formula and nutrition support for eligible young children and mothers.

WIC looks at the eligible person and the household’s income. A younger sibling can qualify even if the child in treatment is older. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can establish the income part of eligibility.

Eligibility rules
  • Mississippi residents may qualify during pregnancy, after childbirth, or as children under five. The WIC clinic also checks nutritional risk.
  • From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the monthly income limit is $5,088 for four people and $4,212 for three.
  • The postpartum category lasts up to six months after a pregnancy ends; breastfeeding participants can qualify through the baby’s first birthday. A person can therefore fit a WIC category even when no current pregnancy is reported. MSDH WIC can confirm the current identity, residence and citizenship or immigration documentation rules for your family.

Good to know

The fifth birthday ends the child category. A pregnancy or younger sibling can still make WIC relevant.

  • Bring the participant’s identity, Mississippi address and household income or qualifying-benefit evidence. Identity options include a Social Security card or passport; a child’s immunization record or newborn crib card is also listed. Mail, utility or bank statements, a driver’s license, and rental or mortgage documents can show address. People whose income is counted do not all become WIC participants. The clinic can confirm which citizenship or immigration documents it requires.
