WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Mississippi Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.

Identity examples are alternatives: a Social Security card or U.S. passport is not the only option. A child’s immunization record or newborn crib card is also listed. Mail, a utility or bank statement, a driver’s license, or a rental or mortgage document can show the address. Other household members are not WIC participants merely because their income is counted. Your social worker can help WIC confirm the participant’s citizenship or immigration documentation and acceptable evidence without assuming every household member needs citizenship papers.
- Postpartum eligibility lasts up to six months after a pregnancy ends. Breastfeeding participants can qualify through the baby’s first birthday, even when no current pregnancy is reported.
