Help getting your child to covered medical appointments when your child has MO HealthNet.

MO HealthNet transportation can help when getting to treatment is difficult. The booking service depends on your child’s coverage. A child can have an escort, and urgent trips have different notice rules.

Eligibility rules
  • Your child must have MO HealthNet and a covered appointment. The broker checks transportation need and the appropriate travel mode.
What you get
  • No charge for rides to and from covered appointments.
  • An escort for your child and arrangements for urgent trips or discharge from hospital.
What the help includes
  • For direct state coverage, MTM Health is at 866-269-5927. Plan numbers are Home State Health 855-694-4663, Healthy Blue 888-597-1193, United Healthcare 844-529-1801 and Show Me Healthy Kids 877-236-1020.
  • Children under 17 need a parent or guardian to accompany them. For members under 21, a parent or guardian can be accommodated on request.
  • Oncology distance standards are 25 miles for urban counties, 50 for basic counties and 100 for rural counties. Comprehensive cancer centers and pediatric specialists use a 100-mile standard; appropriate exceptions can be considered. These are access standards, not automatic lodging approval.

  1. Ask your social worker to identify your child’s booking service. If you choose a routine ride, it confirms how to count the three-day notice.
  2. Have the appointment date, clinic address and MO HealthNet information ready. Ask about long-trip costs before spending.

After you apply
  • The booking service arranges the ride under your child’s coverage rules.
  • The broker confirms prior booking, trip records and the current mileage rate. Meals, lodging and an attendant need a separate approval check before planned spending; past expenses are not automatically reimbursed.

Watch out

  • Book three days ahead. Two state pages disagree, so use the longer notice.
  • Urgent trips and the ride home from a hospital stay do not need the notice.
  • Meals and lodging on a long trip are not published: ask before you spend.
