What it is

Monthly grocery money on a card for households that meet Missouri’s food assistance rules.

SNAP helps with groceries when income is low. Missouri checks this month's income against the screen, then takes rent, utilities and child care off before setting the amount. If you already get SNAP, a pay drop reported within ten days is worked out again.

Eligibility rules
  • The published initial gross-income screen is 130% of poverty. For four people it is $3,483 monthly, for three $2,888 and for five $4,079.
  • These figures apply October 1, 2025–September 30, 2026. The caseworker confirms the table for the application month; these figures do not establish an October 2026 limit.
  • Traditional categorical eligibility can remove ordinary screens. A qualifying elderly or disabled member also changes the tests. Allowed unreimbursed medical expenses above $35 monthly can reduce that household’s net budget. Deductions do not automatically cure a failed gross screen for other households.
  • The current ordinary resource limit is $3,000. The caseworker checks ownership, exclusions and any different elderly or disabled-household rules. A cancer diagnosis alone is not SNAP’s disability classification.

  • Benefits available within seven calendar days when the expedited requirements are met.
What the help includes
  • Expedited review can apply with gross income under $150 and cash of $100 or less, or when income plus cash is below rent and utilities. A separate migrant/seasonal-worker test also applies.

  2. Have income, cash, rent and utility information ready. If you already receive SNAP, ask about reporting the change in pay.

After you apply
  • Eligible households completing the required steps should have benefits within 30 calendar days, or seven days when expedited. Missouri aims to make interview contact within three business days. The interview can be by phone, including at the hospital.
  • Your social worker can help with interview contact at 855-823-4908, an authorized representative, accommodations and acceptable proof. A missed call does not automatically require a new application; the notice explains what is needed.
Good to know

Passing the screen is not the amount; rent and utilities set that.

Other details
  • Missouri’s description of its resource test leaves vehicles out. An existing recipient’s payment can be recalculated after a reported income change.

How to apply

First step: Apply at mydssapp.mo.gov with this month's income, and say if the account is nearly empty.

  1. Apply on this month's income, not last year's.
  2. Say plainly if there is almost nothing in the account: that is what triggers the seven-day route.
  3. If you already have SNAP, report the drop in pay instead of reapplying.

What to gather

The diagnosis letter, the child’s insurance card, and the last two pay stubs cover most applications. The official page lists the rest.
