What it is
Food packages and nutrition support for eligible pregnant or postpartum parents, infants and children under five.
WIC can provide food alongside SNAP for eligible pregnant or postpartum parents and children under five. SNAP, Temporary Assistance or a qualifying MO HealthNet category can establish income eligibility. The clinic checks residence, participant category and nutritional risk.
Eligibility rules
- The published income limit is 185% of poverty. From June 1, 2026 it is $5,088 monthly for four people, $4,212 for three and $5,964 for five.
- Being on MO HealthNet, SNAP or Temporary Assistance usually proves income on its own. A child on premium CHIP may need to show pay stubs instead.

After you apply
- The free clinic visit checks identity, Missouri residence, income or qualifying benefits and nutritional risk. The clinic can explain alternative documents when you are at the hospital. Nonbreastfeeding postpartum eligibility can last six months; breastfeeding eligibility can last through the baby’s first birthday. Children must be under five.
Good to know
The child receiving cancer care does not need to be the WIC participant. A sibling under five may be the person who qualifies.

- Missouri updates its WIC income figures in late spring rather than with the January poverty guidelines.
- The clinic confirms current citizenship or immigration-policy requirements and acceptable documents. Proof of identity is not automatically proof of citizenship.
Federal background: WIC uses 185% of poverty or qualifying benefit enrollment for its income test. Missouri checks the MO HealthNet category. Age or pregnancy/postpartum category, residence and nutritional risk also matter.
