What it is

WIC checks each participant separately. Income can qualify through the 185%-of-poverty screen, SNAP, Temporary Assistance or a qualifying MO HealthNet category. The clinic also checks age or pregnancy status, residence and nutrition needs.
Eligibility rules
- Under 5, or pregnant or recently pregnant; each person is checked separately.
- SNAP, Temporary Assistance or a qualifying MO HealthNet category can establish income eligibility. Missouri’s January 2026 code list includes CHIP code 73, but not premium codes 74 and 75. The clinic checks the participant’s actual category.
- The Missouri WIC clinic explains acceptable identity, residence and income evidence, including alternatives when documents are missing. DHSS confirms the applicable citizenship or immigration policy; identification is not automatically proof of citizenship.

- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- The free clinic visit checks identity, Missouri residence, financial eligibility and nutritional risk. Nonbreastfeeding postpartum eligibility can last six months after pregnancy ends; breastfeeding eligibility can last through the baby’s first birthday. Children must be under five, with the other requirements met.
Good to know
WIC can review your younger child using your income now; qualifying benefit participation can simplify the income check, but you do not need to wait for another program’s decision.
Other details
- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility.
- Missouri’s income table effective June 1, 2026 gives monthly limits of $4,212 for three, $5,088 for four and $5,964 for five. The clinic confirms the current table; no end date is assumed.
