Nevada program

Free health insurance for the adults at home

Nevada Medicaid can also cover the adults at home. You can ask about yourself on your child’s application.

What it is

Nevada Medicaid can also cover the adults at home. You can ask about yourself on your child’s application.

Lost wages can open coverage for the adults as well as the child. Adults are judged on their own, lower line, on this month's income. If you are over it, Nevada Health Link is the route, with a sixty-day window after job coverage ends.

Eligibility rules
  • The expansion group covers adults ages 19–64 who live in Nevada and meet its other rules.
  • The line is about $2,489 a month for two people, $3,142 for three and $3,795 for four (April 2026), judged on this month's income.
What you get
  • Health coverage with no premium for eligible adults.
  • One Access Nevada application can include children and adults.
What the help includes
  • The adult application can travel with the child’s application; it does not require choosing the child’s coverage category.
If you decide to apply
  1. Ask the financial counselor to include the adults when discussing your Access Nevada application.
  2. Have current income information ready, including a recent reduction in pay.

After you ask
  • The usual decision standard is 45 days.
Good to know

Your child being approved does not cover you. Each adult is checked on the lower adult line.

Other details
  • An annual figure divided by 12 can misstate current monthly income after work stops or hours change.
  • From 2027 adults on Medicaid may have to show 80 hours a month of work or other activity. A parent caring for a child under 14 or a family member with a disability is expected to be exempt; ask DSS what proof it wants.
  • Children are not subject to the scheduled adult work requirement. A qualifying caregiver of a child under 14 or a person with a disability may be excluded. DSS confirms each adult’s category, evidence and reporting duties in its notice.
Ask your social worker

“Could the adults in our household qualify for Medicaid too? What would change about our care and costs, and could you help include us if it makes sense?”

Why I’m asking: Our own health coverage matters while we care for our child.

Who does what

The three parts, side by side. The agency decides; nobody on this page does.

You

Add yourself to the same application and give this month's income.

Your social worker

The oncology social worker can check that the adults were included.

The care team

Records and letters when the application asks for them.

Who decides
The Division of Welfare and Supportive Services.
Ask the agency
“Please check the adults in this household for Medicaid on the same application, using this month's income.”

How to apply

First step: Add the adults to the Access Nevada application you file for your child.

  1. Add the adults to the same Access Nevada application.
  2. If pay has dropped, report the drop so the new income is used.

Official application / program page ↗

Where it starts: The same Access Nevada application as the child's. Add the adults.

What to gather

The diagnosis letter, the child’s insurance card, and the last two pay stubs cover most applications. The official page lists the rest.

How long: 45 days, the same as the child's.

What a yes looks like

A second card and a health plan choice for the adult.

What a no looks like, and the next move

A notice that income is over 138% of poverty, with a referral to Nevada Health Link.

Watch out

  • Adults often file for the child and leave themselves off the same form. Add every adult in the household.

Dates that change this

2027-01-01: From January 1, 2027 Nevada publishes an 80-hour-a-month requirement for some adults on expansion Medicaid. The published exemptions include a parent caring for a child under 14 or for a disabled person who needs help with daily activities. (not yet confirmed against the final rule)

The numbers and the rules

The arcane layer, kept on purpose. Checked September 11, 2026.
