New Hampshire program
Health coverage for adults (Granite Advantage)
Health coverage for adults aged 19 to 64 with low income [Granite Advantage].
What it is
Health coverage for adults aged 19 to 64 with low income [Granite Advantage].
Your child's Medicaid does not insure you. Adults are judged on this month's income, so a pay drop can open coverage straight away. A parent who stops work to sit at the hospital loses their own coverage first; payroll can say the date the work plan ends.
Eligibility rules
- Adults aged 19 to 64 who live in New Hampshire can be considered.
- The adult line is 138% of the poverty level, judged on this month's income. You do not have to be the child's legal parent; a relative or foster carer applies the same way.
What you get
- Your own doctor visits, hospital care and prescriptions.
What the help covers
- Adult coverage is assessed separately. A relative or foster caregiver can have their own adult Medicaid route without being the child’s legal parent.
If you decide to apply
- Include yourself on the NH EASY application and ask the financial counselor to check the adult coverage request.
- Have ready: your current income, household information and insurance details.

After you apply
- The Bureau of Family Assistance decides the application using the adult rules.
Good to know
Your child can qualify while you do not. The adult income limit is much lower.
Other details
- From 2027 adults on Granite Advantage may have to show work or activity hours. A parent caring for a child 13 or younger, or for a family member with a disability, is expected to be exempt; ask DHHS what proof of caregiving it wants when a notice arrives.
Official sources
“Could I qualify for my own health coverage if our pay changes? How would it compare with my work plan, and could you help me include it on the application?”
Why I’m asking: I need to keep my own care covered while caring for my child.

Who does what
The three parts, side by side. The agency decides; nobody on this page does.
You
Add yourself to the child's application and report this month's income.
Your social worker
The social worker checks the parent was included, which is the box most often left blank.
The care team
Records and letters when the application asks for them.
- Who decides
- The Bureau of Family Assistance.
- Ask your social worker
- “Can you check that my own coverage is on the same application as my child's, not just my child's?”
How to apply
First step: Add yourself to the child's NH EASY application, or call 1-844-275-3447.
- Add the parent to the same application as the child.
- If the answer is no, look at the Marketplace: losing job coverage opens a 60-day window.
Official application / program page ↗
Where it starts: Tick the parent on the same NH EASY application as the child.
What to gather
- This month's income for each adult
- Your New Hampshire address
How long: No published decision standard was found.
What a yes looks like
A notice covering the parent as well as the child, with a health plan to choose.
What a no looks like, and the next move
A no on income. Ask about the Marketplace instead; losing job coverage opens a 60-day window.
Watch out
- The adult line is far lower than the children's line.
- A work-reporting rule starts in 2027; a parent caring for a child aged 13 or under is excluded by the law.
Dates that change this
2027-01-01: A federal rule requires states to run a work-reporting requirement for adult Medicaid no later than January 1, 2027. The law excludes a parent or caregiver of a dependent child aged 13 or under or of a disabled person. New Hampshire has published nothing of its own on how it will run this. (not yet confirmed against the final rule)
The numbers and the rules
The arcane layer, kept on purpose. Checked September 11, 2026.
What it is worth
The parent's own state health coverage. The last published income line is 133 percent of the poverty guideline.
- $133/year — Last published adult expansion income line
Covers: Doctor, hospital, prescription and mental health care for the parent
Legal protection: Applied for on the same application as the child
What it costs the family: No premium was published for this programme.
The eligibility facts, as published
- Age
- 19 to 64
- Income
- last published figure 133 percent of the poverty guideline; the 2026 state cells were not published
- Residency
- New Hampshire
The trap: The adult line is much lower than the children's line. A family whose child sails in can still be well over it for themselves. Apply anyway: it is one tick on the same form.
