What it is

New Jersey helps eligible families pay for child care (CCAP), including care for a sibling.

Child-care help makes it easier to keep working and look after the other children. New Jersey pays while a parent works, studies or trains and income is under the line. Being at the bedside is not on the state's list, so a parent who has stopped work cannot start it new.

Eligibility rules
  • You must live in New Jersey.
  • Qualifying activities include work of at least 30 hours weekly, study of at least 12 credits, training of at least 20 hours weekly, or a full-time equivalent combination.
  • Income at or under 200% of the poverty line: about $4,553 a month for three (from March 2026).
  • The county agency can confirm current intake, any waiting list, the child's age eligibility and family copayment. Hospital caregiving alone does not establish a qualifying activity. If an approved parent reduces or stops an activity, the agency checks continued eligibility and temporary interruption rules. It can also check whether any exception fits your family.
