Rides to appointments
NJ FamilyCare offers free rides to covered medical appointments across New Jersey.
What it is
NJ FamilyCare offers free rides to covered medical appointments across New Jersey.
Transportation is part of NJ FamilyCare. Regular cancer visits may be easier to manage with a standing ride order. The hospital has a separate line for those arrangements and discharge rides.
Eligibility rules
- The service is for NJ FamilyCare members and operates statewide.
What you get
- Free transportation to and from covered treatment.
- Standing ride arrangements for repeated appointments when approved.
What the help covers
- The hospital line handles standing orders and discharge transportation.
If you decide to apply
- Call the ride line with the appointment date, the clinic address and your child's member number.
- You can ask the hospital social worker about a standing order for a repeated treatment schedule.
Ride booking: 1-866-527-9933 · Official page ↗
After you ask
- For a late or missing ride, the ride-assistance line is 1-866-527-9934.
- Hospitals use 1-866-527-9945 for standing orders and discharges.
Good to know
Routine trips need at least two business days' notice. The care team can ask about urgent trips.
Other details
- A two-business-day lead time spans a longer calendar period around weekends.
- Routine Modivcare trips need at least two business days' notice at 866-527-9933. The treatment team can ask about urgent or short-notice trips. The broker and plan must approve any escort, distant treatment or out-of-state travel arrangement. They can confirm separately whether meals, lodging or mileage are covered. Mileage claims need a trip number and visit verification. The broker must confirm the current rate and whether a parent may drive before the family relies on reimbursement.
Official sources
“Could NJ FamilyCare arrange our treatment rides, including repeated appointments? What are the booking limits, and could you help us set up a schedule that works?”
Why I’m asking: I want to know whether transport can be arranged reliably around our child's treatment.

The care team
Records and letters when the application asks for them.
- Who decides
- The transport broker.
- Ask your social worker
- “Can you set up a standing ride order for my child's treatment schedule, and give me the number to call if a ride does not arrive?”

What to gather
The diagnosis letter, the child’s insurance card, and the last two pay stubs cover most applications. The official page lists the rest.
How long: Book at least two days ahead.
What a yes looks like
A confirmed pickup time, and a standing order for the repeating appointments.
What a no looks like, and the next move
A refusal usually means the child is not shown as a member. Check the NJ FamilyCare number.
Watch out
- The state says two days; the broker says two business days. Over a weekend that matters.
Dates that change this
2026-09-11: The state says two days; the broker's brochure says two business days. Book early and ask the booking line which applies.
The numbers and the rules
The arcane layer, kept on purpose. Checked September 11, 2026.
