What it is
Selected foods, nutrition support and referrals for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents.
WIC serves children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, with each person checked separately. Income at or below 185% of poverty meets the income test. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation also meets that test; the clinic checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules
- Under 5, or pregnant or recently pregnant; each person is checked separately.
- From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the income limit is 185% of poverty. For three people, that is $50,542 a year or $4,212 a month; for four, $5,088 a month. Current Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation can establish the income test. Category, residence and nutrition checks still apply.
- New York WIC is available regardless of citizenship or immigration status, and immigration status is not requested in the WIC process. The clinic still checks New York residence, the eligible pregnancy or child-age category, income or qualifying-program participation, and nutritional risk.
What you get
- A monthly food package for each eligible child, usable alongside SNAP.
- Nutrition support and referrals.
What it is not
- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

- Bring proof of income or current Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation, plus details for each person seeking WIC.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
Good to know
WIC can check your current income directly. You do not need to wait for another benefit decision.
