WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in North Dakota Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.

- Income is at or under 185% of poverty, or qualifying participation in Medicaid, SNAP or TANF establishes income eligibility. North Dakota’s published monthly limits are $3,337 for two, $4,212 for three and $5,088 for four, June 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
- North Dakota WIC does not require proof of citizenship or immigration status. Other participant, residence and nutrition requirements still apply. Its income table runs from June 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. A local WIC office or 800-472-2286 can explain whose income counts and whether Medicaid, SNAP or TANF establishes income eligibility.

- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
Good to know
WIC can review an eligible child or parent using current income. A qualifying benefit can simplify the income check, but you can ask without waiting for another program’s decision.
Other details
- An older child’s diagnosis does not create WIC eligibility.
