Oklahoma program

Rides to treatment (SoonerRide and SoonerSelect)

Free transportation to covered appointments for children with SoonerCare.

What it is

Free transportation to covered appointments for children with SoonerCare.

Repeated clinic trips can be hard to arrange. SoonerCare includes transportation to covered appointments. The right phone line depends on how your child receives coverage.

Eligibility rules
  • Your child must have SoonerCare and the trip must be for covered care.
  • Fee-for-service members use SoonerRide. SoonerSelect members use their plan’s transportation service.
What you get
  • Free rides to covered appointments.
  • Lodging and meals for qualifying distant care when approved before travel.
What this covers
  • Lodging can be approved when the nearest suitable care is 50 miles or more away and an overnight stay is needed. Meals can be added when the trip lasts 18 hours or more. Ask before you travel.
  • OHCA Population Care Management reviews lodging and meal requests at 877-252-6002, ordinarily at least three business days ahead. The care manager confirms any inpatient-escort and advance-approval requirements.
  • Before spending, the care manager can confirm the approved lodging, meals, dates and one medically necessary escort, and the exact dollar limits and receipt rules. Meals already provided by the hospital or lodging program are not paid again. The 18-hour condition applies to meals, not every lodging request.
If you decide to apply
  1. Ask the social worker to help register with the ride service and share the clinic schedule.
  2. Have the child’s plan details, pickup address and appointment information ready. The usual booking lead time is three business days.
  3. For distant treatment, discuss lodging, meals and an escort with Population Care Management before travel.

SoonerRide: 877-404-4500; SoonerSelect: the transportation service on your child’s current plan card. Distant-care approval: 877-252-6002. · Official page ↗

What happens next
  • The social worker can help arrange standing rides for repeated clinic visits.
  • The ride broker confirms the trip arrangements.
  • SoonerRide reservations are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For a ride more than 15 minutes late, ride assistance is 800-435-1034. The broker can discuss urgent trips and recurring-treatment arrangements separately.
Good to know

Lodging approval covers the child and one approved, medically necessary escort. It does not cover the whole family.

Other details
  • Different plans use different phone numbers. Your child’s insurance card helps identify the correct service.
Ask your social worker

“Could rides help with our clinic visits, and could distant treatment qualify for lodging or meals? What are the limits, and could you help us arrange the right service?”

Why I’m asking: I want to understand which travel costs SoonerCare could cover and how to arrange repeated trips.

Who does what

The three parts, side by side. The agency decides; nobody on this page does.

You

Register, give the clinic schedule, and book three business days ahead.

Your social worker

The social worker gives the clinic schedule for standing rides and writes the letter for distant care.

The care team

Records and letters when the application asks for them.

Who decides
The ride broker for the child's plan. Lodging and meals go through Population Care Management.
Ask your social worker
“Can you help us set up standing rides for clinic days, and if treatment is far away, can you ask about lodging and meals before we travel?”

How to apply

First step: If you decide to use rides, the social worker can help arrange recurring clinic bookings through the correct service.

  • The clinic schedule
  • For distant care, a letter from the oncology team

How long: Three business days for a routine booking.

What a yes looks like

A ride account with standing bookings for clinic days.

What a no looks like, and the next move

No SoonerCare yet, or the trip is not to a covered service. Ask which it is.

Watch out

  • Three business days ahead, and the number differs by plan.
  • Lodging and meals need approval before the trip, and the dollar allowances were not published.
  • One approved escort is covered with the child in the posted rule, not the whole family.
