What it is

Monthly grocery money on a benefits card for households that meet Oregon's food-help rules [SNAP].

Food bills keep coming when pay drops during treatment. SNAP uses your household's income and expenses to calculate monthly grocery help. A house, car and savings usually do not block eligibility, though exceptions apply.

Eligibility rules
  • Oregon's March 2026 through February 2027 monthly screening limits are $4,554 for three people, $5,500 for four and $6,447 for five.
  • Expedited processing can apply when monthly income is under $150 and liquid resources are $100 or less. Qualifying expedited cases must have an opportunity to receive benefits no later than the seventh day after filing; the office checks every expedited category.
  • Another expedited test compares income plus liquid resources with rent or mortgage plus utilities.
  • The March 2026 initial screen is separate from the federal October benefit-and-deduction cycle. Oregon’s categorical rule uses income below 200% of poverty. At an exact or rounded boundary, the office checks the income calculation and any other eligibility route.

What the help includes
  • The medical-expense rules include a $170 standard deduction for an eligible elderly or disabled member.
  • For a SNAP member who meets its elderly or disability definition, verified unreimbursed allowable medical costs over $35 and up to $205 a month produce Oregon’s $170 standard medical deduction. When allowable costs exceed $205, the deduction is actual allowable costs minus $35. Cancer treatment alone does not establish SNAP’s disability category, and costs paid by insurance do not count as your expense.

  • The decision identifies your household's benefit amount. Reporting reduced pay can prompt a new calculation, but a same-month increase is not guaranteed.
Good to know

Passing the screen is not the amount; rent and utilities set that. If someone at home is elderly or disabled, medical costs over $35 a month come off too.

Other details
  • This Oregon income-screening table changes in March. Federal SNAP benefit and deduction tables have a different update cycle.
  • The ordinary processing period is 30 days after filing; qualifying expedited cases use seven days. The office checks required household members, each applicant’s immigration category and any resource-test exceptions. A person who is not seeking benefits should not be treated as automatically making the whole household ineligible.

The trap: Oregon's income table rolls over in March, not October. The October change is to benefit amounts and deductions, not to this screen. And if someone in the house is elderly or has a disability, verified medical costs above $35 give a deduction that can raise the amount.
