WIC is for children under 5 and pregnant or recently pregnant parents, each checked separately. Income at or under 185% of the poverty line qualifies, and taking part in Medical Assistance, SNAP or TANF can simplify the income check; an application alone does not. The clinic also checks nutrition needs at an appointment.
Eligibility rules

- Income at or under 185% of the poverty line, or participation in Medicaid, SNAP or TANF, establishes income eligibility. The clinic also checks nutrition needs.
- For July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, the three-person guideline is $4,212 monthly ($50,542 annually). For four people, it is $61,050 annually. Qualifying MA, SNAP or TANF participation can establish income eligibility. WIC still checks each applicant’s category and nutrition needs. Pennsylvania WIC has no citizenship requirement and does not require proof of citizenship or alien status.

- Not the whole grocery budget. Prescribed formulas are not automatically covered; ask the clinic.

After you apply
- WIC serves each eligible person separately: the child under 5. A child aged 5 or over cannot be served through WIC; a pregnant or recently pregnant parent could be served in their own right.
Good to know
The clinic can review income directly; another benefit approval is not required first. Each applicant must also meet WIC’s age or pregnancy-related and nutrition rules.
