WIC provides specific foods, formula and nutrition support during pregnancy and early childhood.
A baby or toddler still needs their own food while the family manages treatment. WIC serves eligible people individually. Pregnancy and the period after birth can also qualify someone for support.
Eligibility rules
- WIC serves pregnant people, eligible new mothers and children under five, with a nutrition assessment.
- From May 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, monthly income limits are $3,337 for two, $4,212 for three and $5,088 for four.
- Proof that the WIC applicant qualifies for Medicaid, SNAP or TANF can establish the income part. Certain TANF-family or Medicaid pregnant-person/infant cases also qualify family members. The clinic checks whose benefit establishes this and still checks age or pregnancy/postpartum status, residence and nutrition needs.
- Postpartum eligibility can continue through the sixth month after pregnancy ends; breastfeeding eligibility can continue through the infant’s first year while breastfeeding continues, with the clinic setting the certification dates. Bring a current eligibility notice or other proof of the Medicaid, SNAP or TANF benefit that establishes income eligibility. WIC has separate rules from SNAP; the Rhode Island clinic can explain its identity, residence and immigration-documentation requirements.
