What it is

SNAP puts grocery money on a card each month.

A loss of earnings can change food help even if your family did not qualify before. The worker checks who buys and prepares food together and which costs can be deducted. The gross-income screen is only the first step.

Eligibility rules
  • For October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026, ordinary monthly gross limits for sizes 2–6 are $2,292; $2,888; $3,483; $4,079; $4,675.
  • Workforce Services checks categorical eligibility, the different rules for households with an elderly or disabled member, resources and deductions before a final decision. Its current table matters: the figures shown for federal fiscal year 2026 end September 30, 2026. The next year’s figures need confirmation rather than an estimate using a new poverty table.
  • Federal deductions include 20% of earned income and eligible elderly/disabled households’ qualifying medical costs above $35 a month. Workforce Services also checks dependent-care and shelter deductions, categorical eligibility and the current resource limits.
What you get
  • Monthly grocery benefits on an EBT card.
  • A reported pay drop can change the amount for an existing case.
What the help includes
  • The worker sets the monthly amount and review date. A pay change can prompt recalculation; it does not guarantee an increase.

  2. Have ready: current income, who lives and eats together, rent and utility costs.

After you ask
  • An existing case’s change report goes through MyCase.
  • The ordinary decision period is generally 30 days. Some households qualify for benefits within 7 calendar days—for example, when gross income plus available liquid resources is less than rent or mortgage and utilities, or when income and resources meet the very-low-income test. Could your social worker help the worker check expedited service using your actual income, available money and housing costs?
  • Expedited categories include gross monthly income below $150 and liquid resources at most $100; income plus liquid resources below rent or mortgage and utilities; or qualifying destitute migrant/seasonal farmworker households with liquid resources at most $100. Identity and the applicable verification rules still matter.
Good to know

Passing the screen is not the amount; rent and utilities set that.

  • The next federal income table takes effect October 1, 2026. Amounts for that period need a new comparison.
