WIC provides food and nutrition support during pregnancy, after pregnancy and for children under five.

What it is

WIC provides food and nutrition support during pregnancy, after pregnancy and for children under five.

WIC is assessed for the eligible family member, not only the child receiving cancer care. A younger sibling may qualify. The clinic checks income and nutritional eligibility.

Eligibility rules
  • The income screen is 185% of poverty. Medicaid, SNAP or TANF participation establishes income eligibility.
  • From July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, monthly limits for sizes 2–6 are $3,337; $4,212; $5,088; $5,964; $6,839.

What the help includes
  • The clinic sets the food package for the participant. This is specific food support rather than unrestricted grocery cash.

After you ask
  • An approved participant receives a card and food package after the clinic visit.
  • Federal standards generally provide 10-day processing for specified special nutritional-risk categories, with a permitted extension to 15 days, and 20 days for others. These are not guaranteed appointment dates; the clinic explains any maximum-caseload waiting list.

A younger sibling’s eligibility does not depend on the patient being under five.

  • Utah WIC does not require citizenship or immigration-status information. Pregnancy, the first six months after a pregnancy ends, breastfeeding through the first year, and children under five can qualify. The clinic can explain its assessment and appointment timing, including faster processing for specified nutritional risks and any waiting list.
