How this works
This assistance is usually a payment toward an eligible energy bill, not a promise to cover the bill every month. Funding, application appointments and local requirements affect availability.
Seasonal Fuel is the first application. Crisis Fuel is a separate emergency route after Seasonal Fuel has been applied for.

Who does what

Apply in the period with the utility bill and proof of income. Mention any medical equipment.
Your social worker
The social worker helps contact the energy-assistance agency and arrange a clinician's letter about medical equipment or care needs at home.
The care team
The clinician writes a letter about your child's medical needs at home if the utility or agency asks.

First step: Find the state or county energy-assistance office (ask the social worker for the contact) and apply with the bill and proof of income.

Watch out
- Funds are seasonal and run out. Apply before the shutoff, not after.
- Tell the utility in writing that a medically fragile child is at home. Many have their own protections.
