Find replacement insurance (Washington Healthplanfinder)

Where you compare individual plans if the work insurance ends. Losing job-based coverage opens a 60-day window.

What it is

Where you compare individual plans if the work insurance ends. Losing job-based coverage opens a 60-day window.

Keep this for a job or coverage change: losing job-based coverage generally opens a 60-day window before or after the loss to choose a plan, and the same website checks Apple Health and premium help first. Leaving a job does not always end coverage immediately; get the actual end date in writing.

Eligibility rules
  • Loss of qualifying coverage opens a special enrollment period; for job-based coverage, 60 days before or after the loss.
  • Federal premium credits run from 100% to 400% of poverty; the state’s own premium help page states under 250%.
  • Premium assistance depends on eligibility, including access to other qualifying coverage.
What you get
  • Plan comparison by doctors, medicines and total cost, not only the premium.
  • A check for Apple Health and premium help on the same application.
For a child in treatment
  • The lowest premium is not the lowest overall cost. Compare the oncology team, hospital, medicines, deductible and yearly out-of-pocket limit. A new plan may need new treatment authorizations.
If you decide to apply
  1. If a work plan is ending, get the end date in writing from the employer. If you already buy your plan here, report the income change instead.
  2. Compare options online or by phone and confirm the enrollment deadline for your event.
  3. Ask the hospital to check the specific plan before enrolling.
Avoid a gap
  • Get the old end date and new start date confirmed. A job change alone does not prove insurance is ending.
Good to know

This is Washington’s marketplace, not an insurer. Compare treatment access before price.

Other details
  • Children can apply for Apple Health here whatever their immigration status.
Ask your social worker

“If our work insurance ends, can you help us compare replacement coverage that keeps our child’s current treatment team?”

Why I’m asking: We want to avoid a gap in coverage.

More background and detailed requirements

How this could help

This is Washington’s health insurance marketplace. It sells insurance plans; it is not itself an insurer. The application checks possible financial help using income and other coverage information.

For a child in treatment, the lowest premium is not necessarily the lowest overall cost. Compare the oncology team, hospital, medicines, deductible and yearly out-of-pocket limit. A new plan may need new treatment authorizations.

What to know before you apply

  • Loss of qualifying coverage generally opens a special enrollment period. For job-based coverage, start within 60 days before or after the loss; ask Healthplanfinder which deadline applies to your event.
  • Leaving a job does not always end coverage immediately. Ask for the actual termination date.
  • Premium assistance depends on eligibility, including access to other qualifying coverage.

Your next steps

  1. Get the insurance end date in writing from the employer.
  2. Use Washington Healthplanfinder or call 1-855-923-4633 to compare options and confirm the enrollment deadline.
  3. Ask the hospital to check the specific proposed plan before enrolling.

Who does what

The three parts, side by side. The agency decides; nobody on this page does.

You

Enrol within the window and check the oncology network before choosing.

Your social worker

The hospital's financial counselor can say which plans the oncology group is in.

The care team

Nothing.

Who decides
The Washington Health Benefit Exchange.
Ask the billing office
“Could you help us compare a replacement plan that covers my child’s current treatment?”

How to apply

First step: Get the insurance end date in writing from the employer.

  1. Start on Healthplanfinder as soon as you know the coverage end date; you do not have to wait for it to end.
  2. Check the oncology group is in the plan network before you choose.
  3. Ask whether Cascade Care Savings applies to your household.

Official application / program page ↗

Where it starts: Apply at wahealthplanfinder.org or call 1-855-923-4633. The same application checks Apple Health first.

What to gather

  • The coverage end date
  • This year's expected household income
  • The names of your child's oncology providers

How long: Coverage usually starts the first of the following month once you enrol.

Clock: Sixty days before or after employer coverage ends to enrol on Healthplanfinder.

What a yes looks like

A plan with a start date and a premium after credits, with the oncology group in network.

What a no looks like, and the next move

If the window has closed, ask about another qualifying life event and check Apple Health again on this month's income.

Watch out

  • Do not use the federal marketplace site; Washington runs its own.
  • Start before the coverage ends so there is no gap.
  • Check the oncology group is in the plan before choosing on price.

Dates that change this

2025-12-31: The enhanced federal premium tax credits ended on December 31, 2025 and were not extended, so do not plan on help above 400% of the poverty level.

2026-09-10: How long you get to enrol after Apple Health ends was not published. The sixty-day figure is the employer-coverage rule; act as soon as the notice arrives.

The numbers and the rules

The arcane layer, kept on purpose. Checked September 11, 2026.

What it is worth

A sixty-day window before or after employer coverage ends, plus the state's own premium help for households the page puts under 250% of the poverty level.

  • $60 — Days before or after employer coverage ends to enrol
  • $250/month — Income line the state's premium-help page states

Covers: Individual health plans for the family · State premium help on top of the federal credit

Legal protection: A coverage loss opens a special enrolment window

What it costs the family: A monthly premium, reduced by federal credits and state premium help.

Decisions this site cannot make: Exchange eligibility determination

Expect friction on: Checking the oncology network

The trap: Do not go to the federal marketplace site: Washington's coverage is bought at wahealthplanfinder.org or through 1-855-923-4633. The sixty-day rule quoted here is the employer-coverage rule. How long you get after Apple Health ends was not published, so treat sixty days as the outside limit and act sooner.
