What it is
Family Care is Wyoming Medicaid for a parent or relative raising an eligible child.
Family Care can cover the parent as well as the child when income is low enough. Wyoming has not expanded Medicaid to all low-income adults. A recent pay cut can make this worth discussing even when the parent did not qualify before.
Eligibility rules
- From April 1, 2026, the monthly Family Care line is $737 for two people, $873 for three and $999 for four.
- The line is $1,192 for five people and $1,327 for six.
- A dependent child must be under 18, or 18 and still in school. A family just over the line gets a small allowance, and a pregnant or disabled parent may fit another Medicaid category.
What you get
- Free health coverage for a parent or caretaker relative who meets the Family Care rules.

- This coverage is for the adult’s own health care. The child’s eligibility is considered separately.
If you decide to apply
- Ask the financial counselor to include the parent in the same benefits application as the child.
- Have current pay information and details of who is raising the child ready.

- The Department of Health decides using the adult’s household and current income.
Good to know
A child’s approval does not mean the parent qualifies. The parent has a separate, much lower income test.
Other details
- Income above the base Family Care figure does not settle every adult Medicaid route. Pregnancy, disability and transitional coverage have separate conditions. The parent’s own insurance and marketplace eligibility need a separate review.

- If you are over this line, ask about a marketplace plan and about the hospital's help with bills.
