Repeated drives to treatment can leave a large gap in your household budget. Wyoming Medicaid offers travel help for eligible benefit plans. The travel office confirms any help with overnight stays, meals or a parent traveling with the child.
Eligibility rules
- Your child must have an eligible Wyoming Medicaid benefit plan and a covered appointment.
- A parent's travel, room and meals need their own approval, separate from the treatment approval; ask the travel office to say in writing which it will pay before you book.
What you get
- Help with mileage or another way to reach covered appointments.
- A check of which overnight and accompanying-parent expenses the travel office can approve.
Coverage and costs
- Travel help may cover only part of the cost. Before you decide how to travel, the social worker can help the travel office confirm in writing which mileage, lodging, meal and escort expenses are approved, the payment limits, and whether payment is arranged in advance or reimbursed afterward.

- Have the clinic schedule and destination ready. Ask what approval is needed before the trip and keep a record of the answer.

After you apply
- For a trip you have already made, ask the travel office whether a late claim is allowed and what receipts it needs; approval before the trip is the safe route.
Good to know
The travel office can confirm costs before a trip. Paying for a journey yourself does not guarantee repayment.

- An out-of-state hospital’s Medicaid enrollment and approval for treatment are separate from the travel arrangements.

- Ask before you travel; there is no published rule about booking afterwards.
- The state says this helps with the cost rather than covering all of it.
- The rates are not published anywhere we could read, so get them on the phone and write down who told you.
